Clueless - [Caleb Steph]
Unafraid to share thoughts in his most vulnerable state, Caleb Steph swings back and forth between exaggerated self-confidence and bleak truths about his fight with reality and the confusion it brings upon one in the early stages of a music career on “Clueless.”
There’s never a moment on the track where you can be sure if Caleb is truly okay with his lifestyle, surroundings, or future. While he may express confidence in his lonely lifestyle through statements such as “I don’t need anybody I’m going to get it on my own'' and “I’m feeling myself so I cop me a necklace”, jaded views of reality overwhelm the bold claims Caleb makes.
From the very beginning we know that Caleb is “stuck in the moment” and despises the present state. It seems to be a mixed bag of emotions Caleb can only express in a whirlwind of thoughts. His melancholy voice accompanies his sour mood throughout the track, adding emphasis to his insecurity. But even when he doesn’t sound somber, he is still frustrated. Shouting “I’m still that n***a why these n***as playin’ with me?!” on the chorus, Caleb falls back on anger in the shower of confusion he shares with us. It’s a beautiful sentiment expressed, and one which many listeners can relate to.
