3VM is Making Noise With His Latest Single “Blackin Out”

Hailing from the south side of Chicago, 3VM is the latest artist to come out of the south side. While most would associate the south side of Chicago to Chief Keef and drill rap, 3VM is here to push the boundaries of the Chicago sound. Similar to artist such as Juice Wrld who is also from Chicago, 3VM is not your typical Chicago rapper. In addition to being from Chicago, 3VM was also raised in Indiana. Growing up in two different cities can influence you in ways you wouldn’t be influenced if you were only from one city. This is present in his music as you can’t pinpoint his sound to Chicago or Indiana but somewhere in between. After the release of his song Choose One, 3VM was featured on Lyrical Lemonade and has kept his foot on the gas by releasing his new single Blackin Out.

Coining the term “Dark Wave” 3VM is creating a sound that is unique to him utilizing his voice as an instrument to create vocal cadences, by doing so he controls the vibe and energy. Blackin Out is sonically dark with high energy. The instrumental is built off a chord progression and a top line melody with a couple notes and simple drums; it gives 3VM a lot of space for his vocals to shine. Drawing inspiration from Kid Cudi, 3VM shows his versatility as an artist with his ability to rap and sing. This style of rap has become a lot more popular over the years with Kanye being the pioneer and Drake taking it to a whole new level. Many rappers are beginning to sing and expanding their abilities as an artist. Rapping with a laid-back flow, 3VM captures a chill mood that can be felt throughout the song. He goes into detail about his experience with blacking out and tells a story in doing so. 3VM is here to push alternative rap to new levels and set the bar high with his latest single Blackin Out.
