LA Based Group grouptherapy., consisting of artists SWIM, Jada Grace and TJOnline just dropped their first EP of 2022 titled Truth Be Told. Truth Be Told is a dynamic set of tracks showing  the groups diverse musical range and influences. grouptherapy. fits in  with today’s generation of alternative hip hop artists who are using a diverse range of influences from many different genres of music to create their own sound. Examples of these artists include Smino, Kevin Abstract, Lo Village, Duckwrth and others.

Truth Be Told had many standout tracks that would make the listener either rock-out or get up and catch a groove but the two that caught my attention  the most would be “Tribal” and “Truth Be Told”. In “Truth Be Told” the track starts off with mellow bars and  harmonious background vocals  until about a minute into the track where it makes a riveting switch into a fast pace trap influenced beat with fast vocals that makes you gravitate into the song even more and keeps you very engaged. The end of the track leads into another switch that has an electronic/dance feel to it. This track shows the gamut of sounds that this group is able to produce and fit into their own style.

In Tribal we see the collective showing their indie rock influence. A distinctive element from the track that stuck was the guitar riff in the background and the parts that included the crash cymbal. This  new generation of music   may not get as much attention as the mainstream but shows that music is still able to be innovative and forward-thinking . It's great to see this breath of new fresh air in the game right now that is helping create balance within the music industry. This is personally my favorite space in music right now just because even as a experienced music listener you learn about new influences and new artists everyday that you are able to root for.
