Marco Plus Interview
modrNation: Where are you originally from?
Marco: I was born in Florida, but I moved to the Southside of Atlanta. Originally I moved to East Point, Atlanta then when I was one I moved to the South side.
modrNation: How did growing up there push you into making music?
Marco: Music was really in my blood, I’m in Atlanta which has a huge musical influence but this shit’s also in my family. My grandpa had a label in Atlanta, so music has always been in my life. Growing up I always took the influence I grew up with then put my twist on it. Sometimes I don’t always wanna do Atlanta rap, I’m from the southside so it’d be easy to do some trap shit but I like to really rap, so that’s how I put my spin on it.
modrNation: How has it been going on tour with Grip?
Marco: Man it’s been crazy, but it’s been great at the same time. It’s super fun but also super stressful at times, this my first tour and this shit’s been hell but in a good way.
modrNation: It’s all part of the process…
Marco: Yeah the process has been crazy, but we’ve really been having fun on everys stop. We’ve been driving through the cities at every stop, and I’m traveling with my brothers. These aren’t just random people I’m on tour with. Tate, Grip, Chris, those are all my brothers.
*Grip walks in*
Marco: Now we’re in here with the man himself, the best rapper on the planet.
Grip: I appreciate that bro.
Marco: I’m gonna ask you the same question; how has this tour been for you?
Grip: Travel wise this shit’s been terrible, we're in a van taking turns driving. I drove through the most snow I’ve ever seen. I’m just happy I could bring these people on tour, I remember being younger and wanting this opportunity so it’s dope to bring you guys on.
modrNation: You got some great openers.
Grip: Yeah man we hand selected them all.
Marco: Shoutout to Grip, shoutout to Tigg.
modrNation: Marco, what’s been your favorite moment from the tour?
Marco: Honestly bro, seeing my girlfriend on this spot. This shit is stressful without your girlfriend. It’s all crazy, so it’s nice to have her at this show.
modrNation: Last year you dropped a big project for yourself, the souf got sum 2 say, how has that project aged for you?
Marco: I love that album, but I've been making some crazy shit since then. So just wait for that, new project on the way.
modrNation: What was the creative process like during that project?
Marco: It was honestly weird, the first song I made for it was 20k, and I made that right after I dropped Sparco. I felt like that was one of the ones that got me a lot of buzz and got some eyes on me. I didn’t know I was making a project at first, I was just making songs until I realized I needed to drop a full project, and it just kept growing until in ebcame 19 tracks.
modrNation: What’s the intention behind your music?
Marco: I just rap to rap bro. I want people to hear what I’m saying and all that, but the intention behind all this is to make myself happy. I want to influence people to be the best rapper they can be, this shit isn’t as hard as people think it is. It’s only as hard as you make it. If you want to be a rapper, just do this shit.
modrNation: What would you say is the importance of finding your own identity and individuality as an artist when making music?
Marco: It’s everything, one thing I learned from all my favorite rappers is to not be like anyone else. I’m not trying to sound like anyone else or look like anyone else. You can pull inspiration, but people need to learn to sound like nobody but themselves, I sound like nobody else. Do what you feel and that’s how you find your own identity. I’m not doing shit that I don’t feel, and that’s a big thing.
modrNation: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Marco: A couple Grammys, nobody cares about the Grammys but people are gonna know. I’m trying to be the biggest ever. Just gonna keep grinding and going crazy, this shit undeniable and it’s only gonna get more undeniable as time goes on.
