Josh Simmons Drops Summer Anthem “Wood Grain”

Reminiscent of sunny blog era produced vibe tracks, WOODGRAIN is a catchy reflection on a day driving in the whip. Josh Simmons switches between multiple flows, running from more staccato, heavy rhymes to laid back and melodic focused delivery. The choppy and harsh drums accompany Simmons’ delivery well, consistently keeping the beat moving as he takes multiple approaches to his own style.

Little sound FX, such as the whimsical bells or tongue clicks, fill out the texture of WOODGRAIN and contribute to its summer mood. It’s much akin to an old Tyler, The Creator production for a rapper like Casey Veggies or even himself (Analog 2). It’s heavily LA inspired and the track benefits from that inspiration greatly. Simmons fits the summery mood as well. Rhymes “In the hood or LA I  popping shit” and “candy paint all on the streets, all on my jeans” are indicators of his relaxed, go lucky mood.
