redveil Releases Highly Anticipated Album “learn 2 swim”

Maryland’s native redveil celebrates his 18th birthday by releasing his third album learn 2 swim. After the success of his 2020 sophomore album Niagara, redveil gained a following online but didn’t stop there he wanted to reach out to fans in the real world. He explains in an interview “I can go into an audience of 50 people, and you feel that impact way more”. A different approach to what a lot of mainstream artists are doing by putting his focus on creating an in-person experience with his fans. Drawing inspiration from his fascination with water and the concept of swimming being a metaphor for surviving, redveil gets personal on his song diving board where his raps over a jazz sampled instrumental. His relaxed melodic flow over the slowed drums gives a melancholy feel with a bounce that is reminiscent of Mick Jenkins. redveil is the next coming of artists in the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, MAVI, and Denzel Curry.

On songs such as pg baby, home, and sky redveil delivers bars speaking on topics many artists shy away from showing his vulnerability through his music. Only being 18 his subject matter is challenging artist twice his age with and setting the bar high for the next generations of rappers. Explaining the importance of learning he says in an interview “Learning never ends” this is great advice for any artist to keep learning no matter the success. While most people are afraid of taking risk redveil is no stranger to it, learning how to swim redveil jumped into a 11-foot pool stating “You gotta learn how to swim…it’s either that, or you drown”. Taking this approach into his music redveil feels there is importance in applying effort without being perfect. You can feel the rawness and authenticity of this album with the use of his gritty vocals on songs like together and morphine. redveil gets introspective on the track working on it where he sings on the chorus “I don’t wanna run no more”, going into detail in the verses about how he doesn’t know how to deal with the emotions he is running from and can no longer pretend. Just getting started redveil has a long way to go but is already pushing the boundaries of hip hop.
