A Conversation With Khi Infinite

modrNation: Where are you from?

Khi: I was born in Norfolk, Virginia, but I’ve been back and forth between Virginia and Delaware. I’ve been there for the past 5 years.

modrNation: What was your upbringing like?

Khi: I had the freedom to do as I pleased. I lived with my mother, and I had my stepfather around. I have a relationship with my father as well.

modrNation: Was there any one from your hometown you looked up to growing up?

Khi: My dad was my biggest influence along with friends and family. Also, Pharrell being that he is from Virginia.

modrNation: When did your interest in music begin?

Khi: My interest in music began when I was either 10 or 11, it started off with me just having fun. I got more serious as the years went on.

modrNation: How did growing up there influence you into making music?

Khi: A lot of people that were around me inspired me to do music. From my friends to family, everyone around me pretty much. I found myself through lots of practice.

modrNation: When did you make your first song?

Khi: I was about 8 or 9 years old when I made my first song in my dad’s studio.

modrNation: Who are some of your inspirations musically and non-musically?

Khi: Myself, family & friends.

modrNation: What is the importance of studying your favorite artists? How do you use that to find your own identity?

Khi: I focus more on creating my own sound, but I will also watch interviews of other artists to gain knowledge on things they do. I’m developing my own sound while also utilizing some of what the Migos have done.

modrNation: Take me through your creative process, where do you draw inspiration for a song?

Khi: It all depends on what is going on in my daily life. Maybe a song that I may hear on the radio or sometimes I will play around with beats.

modrNation: Explain the process behind your latest song KEEP YOUR HEAD UP?

Khi: It was February 3rd when I recorded the song. I was focused on pushing myself and I was dealing with personal things in life, so I just made a song to make me feel like everything is going to be alright. I wanted to make a song that really resonates with me, and the song was affirmation. I shot the video in NY.

modrNation: One of my favorites songs of yours is LOVE FOR YAH, how did that one come about?

Khi: I was going through some things, and I was staying long nights in the studio when that song was made. I didn’t get to get the original beat, so we had to remake it.

modrNation: Take me through the release of your EP TAKE WHAT YOU NEED? How do you feel about it now that it’s been out for some time?

Khi: Best shit that came out last year. I show my versatility within that EP.

modrNation: You rap and sing, which one would you say is more you? Or both?

Khi: I started off rapping, but both are me.

modrNation: Your ear for production is great, how do you find beats? Do you produce as well?

Khi: I produce myself as well as get beats from my friends. I don’t do YouTube anymore, it's been too much of a hassle.

modrNation: What would you want people to take from your music?

Khi: Freedom, it’s ahead of you. Freedom is living in the now.

modrNation: What is the intention behind your music?

Khi: To motivate those to be who they want to be and do what they want to do. Everyone has a purpose.

modrNation: What’s next for you?

Khi: I’m working on a project; I’m continuing to push my single KEEP YOU HEAD UP and I’m spreading more love and shedding light on people.

modrNation: Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Khi: Charting Billboard, collecting Grammys, building more of a community within music, and educating people on the music industry.

modrNation: What is something you want people to know about you they may not get from your music?

Khi: I am a human.
